Flower parade, Netherlands

Bloemencorso Bollenstreek

Each April a parade of flower floats travels about 42 kilometres through the Dutch bulb-growing region, from Noordwijk to Haarlem, decorated largely with hyacinths and other spring flowers.

How it works

  • Volunteer groups build and decorate floats with thousands of flowers, many of them hyacinths.
  • A jury awards first, second and third prize for the most beautiful float, plus prizes for decorated cars, and a children's jury picks its own favourite.
  • The organisers say the route draws more than a million spectators.

History

The first flower parade of the bulb region was held in 1947.
