How it works
- Each hamlet designs and builds one large float, often with moving parts, in a tent in the village.
- The floats are decorated only with dahlias, up to around half a million on a single float, pinned on in the last days before the parade.
- A professional jury ranks the floats by points under a judging protocol drawn up in 2000. The jury can also give its 'plume' for outstanding work, and an audience jury awards public prizes.
History
The parade dates from 1936 and marked 90 years in 2026. Dutch flower and fruit parade culture, Zundert included, was added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage in 2021.
