Flower parade, Colombia

Desfile de Silleteros

The closing day of Medellín's Feria de las Flores belongs to the silleteros, flower growers from the Santa Elena highlands who carry elaborate flower displays, silletas, on their backs through the city.

How it works

  • About 540 silleteros take part, in five main categories: traditional, monumental, emblematic, artistic and commercial, plus children's and junior classes.
  • Traditional silletas recreate the frames once used to carry flowers to market, filled with flowers grown locally. A winning traditional silleta has carried around 80 varieties and weighed about 80 kilos.
  • A jury picks a winner in each category, and the absolute winner is chosen from the category winners.

History

The parade has been held officially since 1957. The 2026 edition was the 69th.
