Melbourne Floral Design Competition

Each March the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show fills the Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens. Its floral design competition asks established florists for two linked pieces, one of them made live in front of visitors.

How it works

  • Each competitor gets a two-metre-square raised space with a double-sided wall.
  • One piece is a wall-mounted installation prepared before the show. The other is a freestanding design made live in two hours.
  • Judges assess each piece and how well the two connect, awarding gold, silver and bronze medals and a Best in Floral Design prize.
